Yellow Cedar; Cupressaceae

Canadian Cypress or Yellow cedar is sourced from Northern British Columbia in Canada.  This wood has very tight grain from 44 up to 70 Annular rings to the inch!
It is master quality.  David Freeman has built both nylon and steel strings with this cedar.  The response of the master grain tightness is remarkable.
Despite its common name, Yellow Cedar is not a true cedar but a Cypress (chamaecyparis nootkatensis) or (cupressaceae).  It is stiffer and denser than Western Red Cedar.  It has a quick response and good tonal qualities and can be used for both Nylon and Steel string guitars.  It has  a strong turpentine like odour when working it.
This wood has been used for back and sides in Flamenco guitars (it is a cypress)  and necks.  Inquire of your interested in a b&s set.
